How do I know which class to take?

Read the descriptions below, then send us a message.  Don't worry, there's no placement test!  You can also switch classes after you start if you need to.  We are ready to work with you!

The Beginner course, for those with no prior Spanish instruction or experience, will be open to the public on a first come first served basis when new courses are added.

What do classes include?

Classes are held weekly on Zoom, with more materials and assistance on a private class platform.  If you miss a class, you can view it later on our private YouTube channel, so you never miss a thing!

All classes are taught by a native Spanish speaker who is
bilingual and has a Masters Degree in the Spanish language.  Your instructor will give you input and guidance on your language acquisition journey.



 

BREAKTHROUGH BEGINNER

Each class in the Sin Fronteras family enjoys fun, engaging activities to support your communicating, speaking, listening, reading, and writing goals in the Spanish language.  You will take away new concepts and weekly practice activities, and will receive personal, individual feedback as you review assignments.

  • Would like to start at a basic level but not a complete beginner.

  • Knows how verbs work in Spanish

What can you expect from this class?​

  • Guidance and support for you to begin speaking in Spanish 

  • Reading of basic cultural text in the target language for comprehension

  • Guidance on how to begin writing in the target language

  • Listening activities to help comprehend Spanish

  • Low stress interaction and practice with the teacher and other members of the class in the target language

  • Useful phrases to help you begin speaking 

EMERGING INTERMEDIATE SPEAKER

​Who is this class for?

  • Has likely taken one year of Spanish instruction

  • Has basic elements of Spanish grammar (e.g., verb conjugations, word order) to produce sentence-level discourse and maintain a simple conversation

 

For example: 

  • Has present tense practice with regular verbs

  • Has had exposure to ser, estar , tener, Ir, Gustar

  • has pretty good repertoire of words

  • has had exposure to nouns, adjectives, verbs and how they work

  • Vocabulary such as clothing, body parts, places, food

  • numbers 0-500

  • Can create a sentence spontaneously

  • Can answer and ask basic questions 

  • Can comprehend more than speak

What can you expect from this class?

  • Reading cultural text that help to support your level of comprehension yet encourage and help you advance in your comprehension of the target language

  • Guidance to help you improve and advance with your writing in the target language

  • Low stress fun interaction and communication with the teacher and other members of the class in the target language to practice and advance your abilities in Spanish

  • Conversational opportunities to help you use what you know and practice new concepts with relevant themes that help you use your Spanish in normal situations

INTERMEDIATE SPEAKER

​Who is this class for?

  • Has had at least 2-3 years of formal Spanish education

  • Has had more exposure and experience with the target language

 

For example:

  • Has had formal elements of Spanish grammar (e.g., verb conjugations in the present and some past tense) Is able to put together conversations independently with errors

  • Can sustain a conversation at a basic level over several turns

  • Can talk about familiar topics, such as family, interests, and academic subjects, future and past activities

  • Can talk about other people also, such as friends or family members

  • Have enough control of grammar to talk about events, places and routines in the present with some use of the past tense

What can you expect from this class?

  • Reading more complex cultural text that help to support your level of comprehension yet encourage and help you advance in your comprehension of the target language

  • Guidance to help you improve and advance with your writing in the target language

  • Listening activities to help you comprehend Spanish more comfortably

  • Speaking situations that will enable you to practice your pronunciation and fluency

  • Low stress fun interaction and communication with the teacher and other members of the class in the target language so that you can practice and advance your abilities in Spanish

  • Conversational opportunities to help you use what you know and practice new concepts with relevant themes that help you use your Spanish for normal situations

UPPER INTERMEDIATE SPEAKER

​Who is this class for?

  • Are able to speak at an Advanced Low/Mid level most of the time, but not consistently

  • Has studied a variety of grammar including  present, past, future, commands, Object pronouns

  • Can give explanations, instructions, go through the steps of a process in various forms

  • Can hold a conversation on various topics for a short period of time

  • Has reviewed and can recall lots of vocabulary to help sustain the conversation, but still loses track of the plan as they are speaking

  • Needs futher review and learn more with the indicative and needs to learn the subjunctive

What can you expect from this class?

  • Classes conducted in Spanish, students speak in Spanish throughout the class time

  • Support and clear explanations to help you achieve your continued speaking goals in the target language

  • Fun, engaging, creative, unique activities that support you in reading, writing, listening and speaking in the target language

  • Reading complex cultural text that help to support your level of comprehension yet encourage and help you advance in your comprehension of the target language

  • Guidance to help you improve and advance with your writing in the target language

  • Listening activities to help you comprehend Spanish more efficiently

  • Speaking situations that will enable you to practice your pronunciation and fluency

SMALL GROUP CONVERSATIONS

Who are these sessions for?

  • Practice your Spanish with a small group (instructor and 2 - 3 students) in an online setting, guided by a fluent speaker

  • Gain confidence in your ability to speak freely and understand an ongoing conversation about a variety of subjects

  • Receive personal feedback on pronunciation and parts of speech as little or as much as you want

  • Limited availability based on scheduling

  • Students who have studied Spanish but need to keep up their speaking skills

  • Can comprehend Spanish, but needs more time in open conversations and would like to perfect their pronunciation

  • Can maintain talking in Spanish for the duration of the class without the use of glish 

  • Is looking for ongoing practice because they don’t get a chance to speak enough Spanish

What can you expect from these sessions?

  • A professional, certified and experienced teacher who will give you input and guidance to help you continue and practice your abilities in the target language

  • A native speaker who will speak Spanish throughout the class time

  • Classes conducted in Spanish, students speak in Spanish throughout the class time

  • Support and clear help for you to achieve your continued speaking goals in the target language

  • Open ended conversations on a variety of topics
